Zero Turn Mowers

I have a model 4824 #968999512 ser number 072430759 and have one of the deck support/lift rods #539110306 without the spring that mounts on part number 539110288 that broke off in the housing and am having trouble removing the piece that is still in the housing. I have a new rod ordered but until I can get the old piece out i can not repair. How does that piece come out of the housing? the parts diagram show two rods, one with the spring #539110161 and one without the spring, mine does not have the spring.
