    Question:
I bought the T540xp in Feb 2014 & had to be fixed the 2nd day I had it (gasline/fuel line supposedly came off) The saw has been great since I got it back, & as of yesterday 5-27-14 it will not start or run again! Am wondering if anyone else has or had any issues with this saw??? Thanks!

      William,

I did a quick advanced search for you on the Husqvarna site, and only saw two other questions about the Model T540, One pertained to a question about "If the cover on the saw was made of metal", and the second question was about "Type of material used for the carrying eyelet", so No real problems noted.

I have a couple T435 chainsaws, which are similar to the T540 but obviously not exactly the same. I have Not had any problems with them and they start very easily, I would say a half a pull and its running, so I'm kind of curious with what kind of starting problem are you having? Is the starter cord hard or difficult to pull? Can you hear the engine pop or fire when choked? Is the engine flooding when trying to start it ? Have you checked the Spark plug to see if its wet or dry after a couple of pulls ? Do you know If your getting spark?

I also, noticed that its been about 3 months since you last used it, unless I'm confused by your dates of "February" and then "May", If its the same fuel I would recommend putting a fresh fuel mixture with the correct ratio into the tank. Dump the old stuff out into a fuel safe container, and then fill it half way with a New fresh mix. Slosh the chainsaw around a little to mix the new fuel up in the tank, and if you have a primer bulb, pump it about 10 times to get a good fresh supply of fuel pulled all the way through the hoses and carburetor, then try starting it using your Normal operating instructions.

Also, If I can be of any help with getting your chainsaw started, I will be glad to help. I am familar with the small top handle arborist chainsaws, In fact one of the T435 models that I have I re-built from scratch, replacing piston rings, re-building the carburetor, etc. etc. and it runs great, and I know if I needed too, I could re-build a T540xp. So think about my questions from paragraph one, and maybe try the fresh fuel, then let me know what you discover.

I hope this helps, and I'm sure the Model T540xp is an excellent chainsaw!

PS. I am not a Husqvarna Representative or an Authorized Repair, just an experimental chainsaw person

Thanks for the advice.  We also have done extensive research on this saw & many others before & after the purchase, & there is some info on other sites as well. Sorry for the confusion about the use of the saw--but this has been my main trimming saw everyday since we got it except for this issue with the fuel line & auto tune, & is on the way to a dealer to be fixed again. Yes of course checked all possible things as I have been doing this work for many years & is not my 1st problem saw. LOL....   I just want to know if ANY one that has this  T540xp saw &/or just recently purchased one has or has had any issues with the same thing?  Thank-you all for the help!

      William and Leon.

I am also curious how William is doing with his T540 chainsaw, after his last trip to the Dealer, and also wondering what they fixed or replaced. I didn't pick up on the first post, that his chainsaw was an "Autotune", and Leon. I was wondering if yours is "autotune as well ?

My small T435 top handle is not autotune, however the first week of July 2014, I received a Model 545 "autotune", and love the chainsaw, it does change sounds on occassion, I guess depending on the "Autotune" and demand on the saw cutting. My only issue is on occassion, maybe once every couple weeks or three weeks or so, after using the chainsaw and shutting it down, it won't re-start on a warm start, and seems like maybe the engine floods after shutting it down. The couple of times that has happened over the last month or so, I just set the controls for a warm start, and then hold the throttle trigger wide open, it usually starts in one pull and seems fine after that one occassion.

If you intentionally warm the saw up, and then shut it down to duplicate the scenario, It works fine, and starts the way it is suppose too. I usually know after one or two pulls If it does not start, just hold the throttle wide open, and it starts on one pull. Anyhow, Its a great running chainsaw and cuts up small stuff like butter, I keep a 16" bar, narrow kerf 3/8 chain and I luv it.
