    Question:
The oil in my hydrostatic transmission expansion tank is well below the cold level (almost non existent in the tank) on my 1827EXLT Snow Thrower. I would like to know what grade of oil to use just to top it off to the proper level. Tried searching - have seen question but never answer, only that you do not have to fill it. Mine is not at proper level and it requires topoff; please share the proper grade.
    Thanks

Can you post make and model of the transmission so I can see if I cab  find the service info on it. Most hydros I service here in the South uses 20w50 but it maybe a lighter oil due to the cold environment that these are required to operate in.

Without the make and model it is hard to find any info and the part lists only shows the part number.

Thanks for the quick reply Eugene.  I can only get the part number as well from the manual; I would have to tear down the blower a bit to try and find a plate on the transmission.  I will see if the local shop will give me grade later this week - was just trying to take care of while I had it out / on my mind ~

No problem Steve. If you find out could you post back the info here as there are several requests yearly about this? I am in the Southeast US so we don't usually see actual snowblower down here much if any.

15-50 syn motor oil per Husk service supervisor; I think they had to call Stockholm.  That was bigger secret than the kentucky fried chicken receipe ~

laugh Thank you very much Steve for reporting back. As I suspected it is a little lighter due to the cold environment these snowblower operated in.

As for being a secret it does seems that way; just no need for it but of course I got a few customers here that don't even check their engine oil until the motor locks up.
