Question:
Bought a 3/8" mini FileKit. The piece for filing the rakers is not attached to the roller piece(like the package picture). And it has one slot on each end and not two slots on each end(like the package picture). I am confused. Should it be attached to the roller piece and I am not sure how to use it on the rakers. Is there a video or URL that I could watch or visit? Thanks. Steve

Thanks Karla for the link. It was pretty informative. But my raker "piece" is attached and it does not line up like the raker piece with two slots. Please see attachment and if you know, have you seen anything like that? Thanks again.

Yes - I have one, sorry about the confusion. I thought you were talking about the other type shapener gauge. Anyhow, Just the way you have it in the picture, you place the gauge over any two cutting teeth, the raker is in between, and will stick up thru the slot, and then you simple using a flat file, file the raker tip down till its flat with the plate.
However, there are many different chains, and safety chains or anti kick back chains have a different style raker it is much wider at the tip of the raker, so it maybe that your trying to make it fit on a safety chain, and the tip of the raker is not fitting thru the slot.
If I get a chance tomorrow, I will get my gauge out, and hold it on top of a bar and chain, and take a picture for you. I will try it on both a regular aggresive chain, and a safety chain, so that you can see the difference in the rakers.

Here are the pictures I promised you (see attachment), and I hope it helps.
Also as your adjusting the rakers, you may find over time that only 2-3 swipes of the flat file on each raker is enough to adjust the height, thereby you can after sharpening the teeth first, use the gage tool more like a "Go/ No Go" gauge. Making a complete revolution of all the rakers on the chain using 2-3 swipes with the flat file, and then go back with the gauge and just double check your work that way it will go alot quicker. The key is not to over file the rakers, just take off a little bit each time. Remember you are only lowering the raker .020 - .025 inch below the height of the cutter ( about the thickness of two business cards). IF you lower the raker too much you will make for a very aggressive cutting, and hard to hold in the cut chainsaw.
