    Question:
I have a 128LD weed eater from Lowes. Wanted to replace the spark plug. On page 22 of the manual it says to use a Champion plug QCJ-8Y plug. On page 20 it says to use a QCJ-6Y or equivalent. Lowes did not have a QCJ-8Y.

I pulled the plug ( never been changed ) and the plug in the unit is a RCJ8Y.

I am confused, what plug do I put in this thing??

Q-Series are inductor types and R-Series are resistor types. With newer electronic engine controls the inductor type are use to further reduce electromagnetic interfere with the engine electronic controls. Now the main difference between a QCJ-8Y and the QCJ-6Y is the heat range with the 8 being the hotter of the two.

If your currently has a RCJ8Y in it and you didn't have any problem prior to its failure then use same as the replacement; otherwise, buy the more expensive QCJ-8Y or NGK BPMR6A.
