Hi and thanks for using the Answer Army to post your question.

If you want to put lights on your machine it will all have to be after market product due to the fact that we don't have a light kit for this unit.

The Weed Eater One was manufactured to be a small compact machine, with no frills options, that is easy on the pockets. The accessories that are available are a bagger #960730027 and the mulching kit #532429758.

The short answer is yes you can, but, as you stated this is only an 8 amp hour battery and the lights will be a large draw off the battery. I would suggest trying to find a high output LED lights that have a low power draw. LED lights only use about a third the power of regular incandescent bulbs.

Also, yes you would have to use an in-line fuse and a switch for safety reasons and to not draw from the battery when not in use.

I hope this helps and thank again for using the Answer Army
