I have a new YTH24V48. It was working fine but I hit a section of thick wet grass and it stopped the engine. When I restarted it, I found that the PTO is stuck in the engaged position - blades always engaged, not matter if the PTO knob is set to "on" or "off". Other than being a bit dangerous, the mower mows just fine and is working well other than the fact that the blades a spinning when I start the mower. I surmise that the PTO clutch is stuck. What should check to get this issue resolved? Please advise.
Answer
Need to determine if this an electrical or mechanical problem. Find the PTO electrical connector at the PTO clutch and unplug it. If the blades no longer engage at start up then it is electrical in nature and is problem a bad POT switch. If they still turn then there is a problem with the PTO clutch itself.
