    Question:
I purchased a Hasqvarna tractor YTH23V48 last week and just love it. My question is that I found a hose that is connected to the gas tank, possible tank vent, but the other end is just hanging loose in the engine compartment.
I have looked everywhere on the engine and there is no port to plug the hose into. I have checked other tractors and they have a place to plug in the hose on the engine shroud just left of my hand. Is this normal? or should it at least have an air filter on the end of this hose so not to ingest any foreign matter into the gas tank?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Dennis

    Thank you for contacting AnswerARMY.

Some models are built this way while other units the hose runs to the carburetor. In part this depends on the state the machine was sold in and other I would need the complete 11 digit product ID to determine if the line had a final destination or if it just a vent.

If the line is to be connected it would need to go to the local authorized service center to make sure connected correctly. If not the the line is doing just what it is intended to do and we would not want anything attached to the line as this could restrict the tank vent.

Please provide the state you reside in as well as the full 11 digit Prod ID.

You can find your local Husqvarna dealers for sales and service and parts as well as manuals using the link.

        Hello Scott W.,

Thanks for the quick reply.  The Model number is 96043011002 and I purchased the tractor in New York.

        Thanks again,

        Dennis

My guess would be that someone left this line loose. You never want an open line into the fuel tank without some sort of dessiccant filter to prevent water(or other trash) from entering the tank, or fuel vapors leaking out. The fuel tank vent line(if that is indeed what it is) should probably go to the engine intake somewhere--carb or intake manifold- so as to burn the VOCs from the tank rather than have them escape to the atmosphere. The fuel tank cap should have a check valve/filter to allow the tank another vent to deal with expansion/contraction of the vapors due to temperature changes, and the vacuum created by the vent connection to the carb..

I would dissagree that this is a 'normal' configuration for any internal combustion engine.
