    Question:
2009 YTH2042 Drive belts jumps off transaxle pulley when releasing brake. Happens 3-4 times per year. Have to push back to shed to spend 45 minutes to put back on. How can I prevent it from happening?

First, check ALL pulleys and belt guides. Make sure the pulleys move free and the bearings are not noisey. Make sure that all belt guides provide a MINIMUM 1/16 to 1/8 inch clearence. Anymore than that, or bad pulleys can cause the belt to jump.

NEXT, if this is the same belt that you have been using that keeps jumping, replace it. The belt can be damaged and you would never know it.

FINALLY, make sure to keep the grass and debris build up on the deck and frame to a minimum or none at all. That can get between pulleys and belts causing them to jump, but regardless, a jumping belt REQUIRES replacement.

In a hurry I replaced the current belt back on pulley, will replace the belt this weekend.  I'm not sure if the belt has streched, but when parking brake is engaged the belt has enough slack to fall off the transaxle pulley.  The only belt guides are in the front of the pulley. they appear designed to keep belt within pulley from the sides, but the belt drops below the back off the pulley and when the brake is released and the tensioning pulley swings over to take up slack, the belt is pulled between the pulley and the transaxle housing.  I think there needs to be a belt guide on the transaxle at the rear of the pulley to prevent it from falling off.  And I do remove all grass after each mow.  Thanks for your help.
