    Question:
I see most, if not all dealers are selling the Rancher 465 with .050 gauge bar and chain (H80) however the owners manual suggests .058 gauge bar and chain (P42, technical data), can someone clarify this? Is it that the 465 can use both gauges? I have just bought a 465 online and am about to fire it up but want to confirm this before I do.

The saw can ran with either config as long as both the chain and bar are the same gauge along with matching pitch spur or rim drive. A lot the 3/8 chains I have seen have actually .058 drive links ground down to .050 to fit the .050 bars. You can not mix .325 and 3/8 components.

The choice of gauge is more of preference of the operator. The .050 setup produces a slightly lighter setup which in long times of usage can be of advantage of not the operator as much. The .058 gauge is by heavy timber operators for more durability; bars are stiffer. From what I heard the .058 is the choice of west coast operators while the rest of the US tends to go with the .050 setup.

Hi Eugene, thanks for the reply and confirming my suspicion, the owners manual was a bit ambiguous so thought I'd better check. Cheers Neil
