Question:
I own a 440 18" bar and it's less than 10 months old. I've used it less than 10 times all for less than a tank of gas will permit. I've pulled the chain cover off 3 or 4 times to clean all sawdust out of spindle area and made sure that it was being oiled properly and chain wasn't extremely dulled. I started it last week and set it down to warm up while I gathered my safety glasses and gloves along with bar oil and my gas can. I was away from it idling for less then 10 minutes. When I returned from the garage my saw was smoking badly and I immediately shut the engine down. I started to check the chain and realized that it was red hot and it literally burned through 2 pairs of nylon work gloves in less then 2 secs of me handling the bar and chain area. Everything including the chain cover is now melted and warpped beyond being useable. I tried to pull all the plastic that had melted around everything including the spindle off but my chain case/cover is destroyed and brake doesn't function since the plastic on the inside of the cover had melted away onto the clutches and gear. I really love my saw and my entire family uses them so I think I should try to have it repaired since it's still almost new. My question is what the hell happend and is the warranty going to cover the repairs since something was defective on it for this to happen.
