    Question:
How do I remove the covers from the top of an LC221A with a B&S engine?
    Details:

I purchased it about 7 months ago and have used it 4 times. The engine will not start. I've squirted starter fluid into the carb and it starts and instantly dies - repeatedly. I use a gas treatment, so there should not have been a problem letting it set for a couple of months at a time. Even so, I drained the tank and fuel line and put in new gasoline. At this point, it looks like the choke is malfunctioning, but my hands aren't far enough from my eyes to watch the carb throat and pull the starter cord at the same time.

I want to contact B&S, but need the engine model number (under the cover) to do so. [B&S uses an interesting technique to make it difficult to get support: the serial number is on a label on the outside. However, their support site will not accept the SN, only the hidden model number.]

It looks as if I try my normal methods to remove the orange and black covers, I'll have several shards of plastic :-). I can't seem to find or access screws or clips underneath that will allow me to take it off. Can anyone give me a detailed description?

Tnx for the image. Engine serial number say its a 093J02-0068-F1. Whoever you talk to at Briggs apparently didn't what were doing as I was able to look-up the serial on the Power Portal tech site.

The upper orange cover is a snap fit and under it it 3 screws to remove the black engine cover. I haven't see one in the shop yet with this cover so I can't say exactly how you remove it easily. The only engine I have seen so far didn't have the additional trim.

I email Briggs to find which is the correct service manual for this engine as it wasn't listed in the docs.
