    Question:
I purchased a Husqvarna 55 rancher and I'm having some problems finding the correct part. the serial # I found is
    967 05 29-00
    03 4701788

If my research is correct it is a 2003. When I look for parts I see several date ranges for this. for example, parts for 2007-02, 2006-02, 98-08, and 2000-05. I need to replace my cylinder head and I get different #'s depending on which date range I look at. How can I be sure I get the right part?

      David.

The first two digits of your serial number is "03", this infact means its a 2003 chainsaw, so to get the same part numbers you will need a 2003 IPL drawing. Also you mention a date range, I believe but could be wrong that the number following the date is a revision number, ( ie 2000 - 05) would be year 2000 Rev 05. Anyhow most Dealers receive supplements or updates during the year, these updates are usually not real significant, but it can change the original part number.

I will see If I can locate a 2003 IPL drawing for you, Have you checked Husqvarna's download site for Manuals & IPL's ? Oh alot of On-line  Parts distributors for Husqvarna, have look-up sites where you can bring up their parts list, have you tried them ?

Please give me a day, and I will see what I can find.

      David,

I just did some quick checks and found a Husqvarna Model 55, IPL 2004-02. It states that cylinder "503609172" replaces obsolete part # 503609108, Not sure If this is any help to you. Also it shows that cylinder 503609172 replaces both earlier model years and some later model years up thru 2006.

Here is a link to the distributor, I would also suggest a phone call to them they are very helpful.

I have looked at the husqvarna website. They have 3 different ipl's. 2000-05, 2010-04, and 2007-02.  I haven't been able to find a 2003 one.

      David,

The 503609172 cylinder kit is the non decompressor setup and the 503609171 cylinder kit has the decompressor setup.

The 503609171 should come with a dummy plug which can replaced with an decompression valve (crv). Some aftermarket kits do not provide this dummy plug.

Both both kits will work fine; although, I prefer installing 503609171 as it gives the customer the option of upgrading to an decompressor system. Many older users greatly appreciate this option as it makes starting much easier.

With either kit you would still need the cylinder related gaskets (exhaust and cylinder to crankcase).
