    Question:
Just got a new YTH22V46. Mower runs great however the deck height is way too low for fescue and I can only cut on level 6 (highest). Is it recommended to use the leveling adjustments to raise the entire deck and can I get one inch rise overall and have some flexibility based on time of the season? Please advise. No scalping allowed.....

Let's see if this works - I can't see Gregory Benn's update on this site but I can see it in my inbox.  Adding it on since Greg added some things on scalping:

Like Randy said... my deck and blade were way off too.  The instructions tell you to adjust the air pressure, once you do that- park the mower on a level surface and get yourself a short ruler and do an accurate measurement of the blade heights (left/right & front/back) just like the instructions say.  Once I did that and got the blades level, then adjusted the anti-scalping wheels since they too were off.  After all that....  finally, it worked.  Good luck.

I just bought a YTH 22v46 and have the same problem. The max height of the blade is 3.5 The rear tires are 20x8.8 and are 19 inches high. The front tires are 15x6.6 and are 14.5 inches high. It sure didn't help when I took out the extra 10 psi of air that they put in to ship the mower. I have just over 1 hour on the mower and called Lowes to ask about the problem and they said they couldn't help me because I didn't buy the extended service plan. That's crazy. I just wanted to ask a question.

KIWI PETE here, you might want to try my approach, firstly park your 'ride on' on a level surface, preferably concrete.

Dis-connect the battery, then inflate the tyres to the recommended PSI.

Raise the deck to the highest setting (usually 6).

THEN place, two   4" thick pieces of timber under the deck,  the first piece placed 'crosswise' under the rear edge, the second piece placed  'lengthwise' so that it 'just' slides under the front edge in the midline.

By doing this you have achieved 3 things, namely the maximum height the deck will lift, and perfect levelling front to back/side to side.

THEN slacken off the adjusters until they are sloppy and loose (usually there are 4 of them in 2 pairs).

The first set to tighten are the ones that control 'side to side' levelling, just run the adjusting nut up the thread until it just 'nips up' on both sides (IF YOU RUN OUT OF ADJUSTMENT YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE 4" PIECES OF TIMBER FOR 3 1/2" OR 3")

The second set to tighten are the ones that control 'front to back' levelling. First back the lock nut right off, then turn the adjusting nut until it also 'nips up' and there is no slop in the rod, do that for the other one, remember to lock the locking nuts afterwards.

Don't worry about the front edge of the deck having to be 1/2" lower than the back, because when you sit on the mower the back edge will dip slightly under your weight, which is a good thing if you think about it, because the blades at the front edge will give you the 'first' cut, and the blades at the rear edge of the deck will give you the 'second' cut as it passes.

My optimum cutting height is lever position 3, and this is the setting that my guide wheels are set so that they are just in contact with the level surface (concrete floor), this will give me a 2 1/2" cut, I can go down to a 2" cut and up to a 3 1/2" cut maximum.

I mow about 1 acre of rolling lawn, I don't have issues with scalping, and the lawn looks like it's been groomed rather than mowed.

I hope this information is helpful.

I just bought a YTH22V22 from a dealer--not Lowes--and I mowed my lawn for the first time yesterday. I have the same problem. Even on setting 6 the blade height is only about 3 inches when measured on level pavement. I too mow tall fescue and need a cutting height of at least 3-1/2 inches or it kills the lawn. Preferably, setting 6 should be about 4-1/2 inches. I have no idea what setting 1 could be good for.

Note: Carlisle 15 x 6.00 - 6 tires are actually 14.3 in diameter as per the Carlisle web site.

Note: Set the tire pressure; as per the manual:

        CHECK TiRE PRESSURE
The tires on your tractor were over inflated at the factory for shipping purposes. Correct tire pressure is important for best cutting performance.
        • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown on tires.

The blades appear to ALWAYS be out of balance as well.  Put the blade height in setting 6 :

1: on a level pavement, rotate the blades so they are pointing straight forward.  Measure the front and back end of the same blade.  If they are not the same length, adjust the single front adjustment arm until the blade is level.

2: on a level pavement, rotate the blades so they are pointing side ways.  Measure both outside ends of the two blades.  If they are not the same, adjust the single side adjustment arm until the blades are level.

Setting 6 should then be 4 1/2 inches high

This to all owners with a height cut problem:  I just purchased a tractor yesterday and the factory sets the scalping wheels in the highest position.  Take your tractor to a flat level surface and preform the level adjustment as outlined in the manual (you may have to download the manual as all they provide when you purchase is a quick start guide). Now the important part.....Lower your deck to YOUR desired mowing height by measuring the distance from the floor to the bottom of the blade.. Then remove each scalping wheel and reinstall it in the lowest hole it will go into with out raisng your deck. This will allow the deck to go no lower than the height you set.You will notice that the deck will no longer go to the lower positions but it will cut at Your setting or higher

Has anyone ever received a solution to this problem? I just got a YTH22V46 and at the 6 setting my blades are only 3.5" inches high. Same as others, the tire sizes are smaller than what's written. Further my PSI in the front is correct and the back came over inflated slightly. I'm afraid to deflate as I don't want it to go any lower. I usually cut my lawn at 4" and this was one of the reasons I purchased this mower. I followed the manual to do deck leveling, but it's only applicable to one side and does not raise the whole deck. This is very disappointing. Bought through an authorized dealer and I will be reaching out to them tomorrow.

This problem can only be corected by class action law suit Lawyer ALERT!!

I have the model number YTH22V42 with the same issue of the mower deck being too low at its highest setting of 6. My measurement to the blade at this setting is under 3 inches. I agree that a class action lawsuit may be the only way to get Husqvarna's attention.

I ended up inflating the tires past the recommend psi a little. It got the additional height and I was able to level out the deck. It has worked now for years.

What is the recommended air pressure for front & rear tires and what are people over-inflating to for successful results.  Thanx

Try this youtube video.  It worked for me and took me ten minutes to fix the height of the mower.

I have the same problem and have adjusted the deck to it's highest level by adjusting the rods underneath the deck. It's flat out design flaw and no one has a fix
