    Question:
I purchased a GT6000 Tractor/mower from Sears and front wheels severely out of alignment after about 12 hours use. Had home warrenty and technician came out, ordered spindles and other parts, changed still same problem. Found steering plate between frame rails buckled and frame bent and twisted. Issue is thin gauge metal 12 gauge use for frame.

I looked at several Husqvarna models at Lowes YTH21K46 and YTH24K48 and appear to have thicker gauge frames but cant find specs. Can you tell me what gauge metal is used on these and similar models?

Also technician shared he changes a lot of Hydostatic Transmission as they burn up in heat. Do you use same HS Transmission as Sears and what does your failure rate look like. What is your warrentee?

Do you offer manual transmission options?

    Thanks

    Lew,

The frames on both the Husqvarna YTH tractors and Craftsman GT tractors use 10 gauge steel for the frames.

We use transaxles from Hydro-Gear on the YTH and GT tractors. Failure rate for all brands is less than 5% and most of the 5% failed from abuse or mis-use.

Husqvarna builds some gear drive tractors but they are smaller units. All larger units use the hydrostatic style transmissions.

Warrantee is covered by the transmission manufacturer and is normally between 2 to 3 years dependant on the transmission manufacturer.

I posted this question on 27 April and it shows it has been esculated.  When will I get an answer?   I need to get a new tractor or have sears replace with another GT6000 which I fear will have similar issues.  Please respond!  Thanks

Because I believe this post is still relevant to future potential buyers of Husqvarna/ Craftsman models, I want to point out that the GT6000 is built by AYP (Husqvarna) and is the same as the Husqvarna GT's with the pan style frame verses the Heavier c- channel frame on the MTD built Craftsman Pro-Series Garden Tractors. This pan style frame weighs only 26 lbs!

I know for many this may be confusing so I will try to clear some of it up with what I've learned so far. The MTD built GT's generally start with 247.XXXXX in their model number which can be viewed by lifting the seat up, and the AYP built models start with 917.XXXXX. Simplicity built is 107.XXXXX, what a frame on this model! If I were to guess at the color of this GT6000 I would guess red but color is not always an accurate way of telling between the GT's built for Craftsman, but the model number is. Many of the AYP built GT's for Sears have been discontinued as a side note.

The frame on an AYP built GT is actually 12 ga steel, to include the e-coat in that measurement. The steel ga of the AYP GT's and TS's are the same thickness as a common grass cutter under many names built buy Ariens, these pan style 12 ga  chassis's (frames) are not sturdy enough for Garden Tractors and the ground engaging work as AYP represents in their adverts, but the heavier c-channel frame of the MTD built GT's are'ish, or at least better for Light duty ground engagement work. (AYP will agree with this when it's a warranty claim but denies this in their literature for sales inducement, I have proof of this too).

Lew the Husqvarna website disputs what you claim.  YTH tractors do not have Hydrogear transmissions as you claim.  They have Tuff Torq and they are the K46 models---the worst.  Folks lay out  a lot of hard earned cash and don't have much respect for false claims like you present.
