    Question:
I just got my new Husqvarna 235e chainsaw Sunday and it doesn't start. i took it back and the guy at the store could not get it started. So I exchanged it for another one and this one did start only for a few seconds. I could not get it started again. I called customer service and was sent to southern states for someone to look it over. He had a hard time with it and could not get it started. He had to make a few adjustments and got it started. When I got it home, I tried to start it, and it does not want to start again. I have been following the directions and doing as they said to do. I can't return this one because it was the floor model. I should have to work this hard to get a chainsaw to start. Do you have anyother ideas on trying to get it started? I hope I did not waist 200.00 dollars.

    Thank you for contacting AnswerARMY.

First I would start by reviewing the safety and starting procedure in the operators manual.

Make sure you have the appropriate safety apparel and a clear area to work in.

First set the chain brake by pushing the forward most top handle forward, to check this you can release it by pulling it back and then pushing it forward again.

Second make sure the saw has fresh (less than 30 days old) properly mixed fuel in the fuel tank and bar and chain oil in the oil tank.

Third place the saw on the ground, on a hard flat surface, press the air purge bulb several times till you see fuel circulate in the bulb (the bulb does not need to be full).  Pull out on the blue choke lever this will automatically move the switch to the on position.

Fourth with your LEFT hand grab the front handle bar and push down, put your RIGHT foot into the rear handle where the trigger is. With your RIGHT hand pull the rope slowly till resistance is felt and the pull rapidly 12"-16" do not pull the rope all the way out repeat this 1-6 times till you hear the unit "POP" or try to run. Push the choke in and continue to pull the starter handle until the unit starts typically 1-2 pulls.

Sixth immediately squeeze and release the trigger to bring the saw back to a normal idle speed.

Seventh once you step to where you intend to cut, make sure you have good footing on the ground do not stand on limbs or logs and do not use if not standing on the ground. Make sure there are no bystanders near you or path of debris.

Finally release the chain brake by pulling the forward most guard back towards the handle till it snaps into place.

Be careful while using the chainsaw.

If the saw fails to start you may want to review the troubleshooting on how to start a flooded engine or have the local dealer inspect the unit.

THIS IS WHAT I DID, FAST EASY & COST $20:

Bought a new Husqvarna XP372 ($900).  Lots of trouble starting it!!!  While cleaning the air filter I tried to start it without the air filter.  It started the first pull.  Went to get new air filter & found out a 40micron filter comes "standard".  40micron means the holes in the filter are EXTREMELY small to trap everything.  I bought an 80micron filter (holes twice as big) and it starts first pull every time!

I was pissed.  Told the store owner they should get Husqvarna to replace all the air filters in their chainsaws or customers will think they are crap.  Whoever decided to install these air filters has never actually used a chainsaw in my opinion.
