Hi and thanks for using the Answer Army to post your questions
Shifting on the fly is a useful means of controlling the speed of your machine. Because it is a friction drive wheel, heavy shifting (on the fly) causes loss of power and over many years of use may cause delamination of the wheel.
The clutch/break pedal is great for this operation. When you start off lets say in second and want to go to third you do have to stop, but the action of the pedal is perfect for this. It is much smoother than the standard transmission on a gear driven machine.
If you have ever started a machine in fourth or fifth gear it tends to throw the user back in the seat. With the clutch pedal the machine has a much easier transition from stop to go in any speed.
I hope this answers your question.
Thanks again for using the Answer Army.
