    Question:
I bought a Model HU775HW mower and am having a problem with the hose wash feature. When I hook up the hose, turn it on and start the engine, water sprays and pours out of the top of the mulch-er door. The water is spraying on the back of the engine and filling up the top of the mower deck. I called the place where I bought it and they told me to attach the side discharge attachment and try it. As soon as the water started hitting the engine, I shut it off and let the mower engine cool off before trying again. I'm afraid that the cold water hitting the hot engine will cause a crack in the engine block or crankcase. What should I do? I'm not sure the guys I bought it from are up to the task of diagnosing a problem.

Thank you for contacting the AnswerARMY.

It is upsetting that you are having these concerns.

Some water coming back towards the engine and on top of the deck is to be expected.

Using the washout you should let the unit cool first,

move the mower to a hard or already mowed surface

connect and turn on the water,

make sure hose is not under the mower

start the engine allow to run till clean water is observed

    shut the engine off

turn off and disconnect the water hose

start and run mower to dry it, allow unit to run several minutes

If the engine was cool when you started, it will not have chance to get hot with the water hitting it. Also the engines are aluminum not cast iron so should not crack do to water contact.
