    Question:
    I just purchased a 224L 4 stroke trimmer.

The local dealer does not sell Husqvarna 4 stroke oil and was unable to answer my question. I called the support line and they just read me what was in the manual.

I want to change the oil (what I consider "break in oil" after the first or second use). The manual suggests a good quality SG (minimum) service 10W40.

Looking at a bottle of Mobil 1 synthetic oil it is 10W40 and SN service. Great, it matches all the requirements.

I was about to use this but remembered this oil is a "detergent" oil .... as are all automotive oils. These oils are to be used in engines with an oil pump and oil filter.

Most engines without an oil pump (such as a small lawn mower or trimmer) use a non detergent oil.

Detergent oils all impurities to be dissolved in the oil and then filtered out by the filter. No detergent oils allow impurities to remain separated and not affect the lubricating quality of the oil.

I do see ( Google search ) that Husqvarna does offer a WP 10W40 oil. I should be able to order it. Is is detergent or non detergent? I assume it is a conventional oil. I also assume but could you please confirm that a synthetic oil will be better than a convention oil.

I just wanted to make sure using a synthetic automotive type oil ( detergent oil) is OK in this unit.

    Thanks ..... Mike
