Question:
Hello.
My 2 x Husky chainsaws are about to be pressed back into service after 10 and 5 years of downtime respectively.
Both saws were drained of fluids at layoff, and will of course be refueled with fresh.
Is there anything special I need do at first startup. I particularly don't want to damage piston rings or bore.
Thankyou
Answer
Since they have been out of use for this amount time expect to do carburetor rebuilds and fuel lines replacements. These can go bad over this amount since were already exposed to fuel mix.
Other than using a good fresh mix there is not much else needed as far as cylinders go.

I always give my old saws a little spray of "LMT" tune up spray directly into the cylinder by removing the spark plug. It has both a lubricant in the tune-up spray and a starting fluid for small engines. It makes it easy to pull over the engine if it has sat for a while, and the starting fluid with oil won't hurt the engine. That way the engine should start in just a couple of pulls, otherwise you may need to pull several times to get fuel into the carburetor pump, and then into the engine and you will be moving the piston while it is dry.
Anyhow, just my two cents
