    Question:
I have a 450 rancher which is around 2 years old and has been moderately used at best. Only non-ethanol gas has been used in it. I was cutting up a large fallen tree last week when the saw suddenly would do nothing but idle before running out of gas. I've seen many questions on this topic so I'm asking to be sure its the carburetor. First thing I noticed us the primer bulb is having trouble sucking gas. The bulb would stay depressed for about 2 mins before finally returning to the normal state. So I took all the fuel lines off and checked them. I checked the primer bulb as well and it seems to function properly. The filter is just fine I checked by hooking the primer bulb directly to the filter line and it pulls fuel with no resistance. My concern is, could it be the tank vent instead of the carb?

    Any advise would be helpful.

You need to check the carburetor internal filter screen. Some these carburetors had a filter screen that would be partially or fully clogged and still look clean. These are the ones that you can not see though due the multiple layers that are used. I usually replace them here with single screens that can be cleaned later if needed.
