I have a 1 year old z240 . I was mowing and turned it off now the key is dead, when i turn the key i hear the pto click, i have replaced the cylinoid and the pto button still a dead stick
First I thinking you mean the Z246 as see no Z240.
I assuming you mean it wouldn't engage the starter.
Now are you saying the when you turn on the ignition that the electric PTO electric is engaging? Not confusing the fuel or starter solenoid for the PTO are you? The fuel should click when turn on and the starter when you try to start but not the PTO clutch.
Yrs the pto is electric and undet the very back of the mower, it seems like its locked out on a safty switch but i have checked them all. The only thing i get is a click from the pto when i try to start. The yellow wire that goes from the pto button is not getting power to engage the cylinoid to let it start
Of course there would no voltage if the PTO switch is on. The PTO switch must be off in order to start. There should be two yellow wires on the PTO switch one goes to the starter relay (solenoid) and other to the ignition switch which only receives voltage when ignition is in the start position.
Here the connection layout of the PTO switch. Note the one on the right sight are the commons. Also colors are for caraification and does not match the actual wiring harness colors.
When i turn the key on all i hear is a click on the pto, no voltage on the yellow wires, battery is good, replaced the cylinoid and the pto switch, do you have any suggestions on what is locking everything out
What is it going to take to get this through to you. The PTO clutch should not be engaging except when the PTO is in the on position; otherwise, your deck is going start turning as soon as you start the engine.
Either a bad connection at the ignition switch or the switch itself is bad. I have seen the Packard connectors to fail.
Try this to verify it is at the ignition switch or PTO switch. First make sure you're in neutral or have the rear wheels off the ground and remove the the deck drive belt to prevent the deck from turning the blades. Take a jumper and apply +12vdc to yellow wire at the ignition switch. If the problem at the ignition switch it should attempt to start.
If don't try remove the PTO switch connector and jumper the two yellow wires together and try. If then tries to start something is wrong with the PTO switch as it could be the wrong one.

make sure the parking brake is pulled in or up. I have to pull on brake and push handle out to get it to come on.
