    Question:
What chainsaw does husqvarna make that will allow me to put a 42" bar on in order to cut boards on hardwoods? Is the 390XP large enough?

The 3120XP is the one Husqvarna has list for a max recommended bar length of 42" and the 395XP is next lower power with max recommended bar length of 36". The 390XP drops to 28".

      John.

I am guessing you have some kind of chainsaw mill attachment for your chainsaw. If this is the case then you are probably Not cutting with the entire length of the bar, since some of the bar is held with-in the mill attachment fixture. If this is the case, then you need to figure out how much bar is actually ripping thru the log, and If its only 28 inch logs then you will be fine with a Model 390XP.

However, If you are truly ripping thru 42  inch diameter logs, then besides getting the biggest chainsaw engine you can get will be the best, but you might consider some auxilliary cooling fluid on the wood when cutting.

Also, If you are cutting many of these 42 diameter logs, then you probably don't want to try doing this with a chainsaw,  but rather a Gas engine powered bandsaw mill just my two cents, and hope this helps

I also would be very curious what you are trying to do, and how, ripping thru 42 inch diameter logs ?
