    Question:
I have a Husky 445. The saw comes stock with a fixed oil pump. I would like to change it for an adjustable oil pump. The crank case has an unused mounting hole behind the clutch and markings and a port for an adjustable oil pump. Husky says the saw only comes with the fixed pump. There must be and adjustable pump that fits this saw, why else would there be markings and mounting holes for one?

There is but is will take some minor mods for it to fit. The case mould has mounting locations is use to make crankcases for various models.

To make the change you will need a new oil pump pinion drive PN 503892202 and the adjustable oil pump PN 544180104. You also need to flatten the non adjustment oil pump retaining indention on the chain guide plate and remove the small roll pin that the non adjustable pump gear rides on. Here is an image of the area that must be flatten on chain guide plate (Circled).

That's great! Thanks so much for the help Eugene.

The reason I want to switch to an adjustable oil pump is that I'm not getting enough oil from the fixed oiler for the 18" bar that came with the saw.  The saw is basically brand new refurb.  The pump and oil delivery line are good.  I have blown the oil pickup and duckbill with compressed air.  No blockages.  Only thing I can think of is that the duckbill isn't providing enough air to the oil tank resulting in a vacuum??? Any other thoughts?

The only other thing I can think of is someone may have left the small pin that the pump piston fully engaged out. I have done this a couple times when replacing the crankcase on one that had burned holes in the oil tank due to bad muffler gaskets. Just a pain to redo the work because of this as got remove the clutch and chain guide plate to get to where the pin goes.

This picture isn't too clear but should an idea of where the pin goes in the groove lower side.

From what I can tell, everything is installed and in working order.  I still cant figure out why I'm only going through 1/2 tank of oil for every tank of gas.... Sounds like switching to an adjustable oiler is my only option.

Any recommendations on how to flatten the indentation on the chain guide plate? Is a few smacks with a hammer going to work, or do I need to cut the section out?

All I did to the one on my 450 was put it on the anvil and flatten with a hammer.
