I purchased a HU725EX just last week. The engine bogs down when mulching, the grass is not wet, and I'm not cutting too deep. A 190cc engine should not have any problems cutting in them conditions. What should I look for?
In my personal opinion based on the engine size list in the IPL your simply overloading the engine.
Everybody has different ideas of what is not too deep or too thick.
The 190cc Briggs 128M02 is only produces 6.75 Ft-lbs gross torque which converts to 3.9 HP at the 3100 rpm governed speed which must also power the self propel unit. When mulching different type of grasses mulch differently. Some clipping will stay in mulching chamber longer than others causing a larger engine load due the mulching system is having to re-cut the same clippings multiple times while at the same your still adding even more clippings to the chamber.
I don't know about that.... This is my 4th self propelled mower from over the years. My first was a sears (don't remember engine size) that mulched with no problems, next was a Yard Machine (which was the best & cheapest mower I have every owned) with a RWD and a 140cc engine I had for over 10 years and it cut great, I then purchased a Troy-Built 190cc from Lowe's and which cut deeper grass than what I'm cutting now. The only thing I did not like about the Troy was the InStep drive system lever... It was the most uncomfortable way to mow the grass and it put blisters on my hand so I returned it and got this HU725EX 190cc engine thing it would have the same power as the Troy-Built mower.
Then I would say there is some kinda problem with mower engine setup as you sound well experience in the use of SP mowers. I don't what the engine setups on the Troy-bilt or the Craftsman. I would at least have the mower checked out by the dealer.
And I can understand your disappoint with mower's performance when compared to your previous experiences. Good luck on getting things resolved to your satisfaction.
