    Question:
Just got a 450 chainsaw and it won't start. Believe it is not getting spark. Any suggestions, return to vendor (on-line) or find local service center?

First check to see if your unit has a CRV (compression release valve). If it does then remove the cylinder cover and gently pull its top up closing the valve. These have been known in the pass to stick open causing starting problems.  Then try starting again. If it now starts then the valve needs replacing with a working one.

As if to return it to online vendors or not you need to check with them on this. Note: If you do return to the online vendor drain all fuel and oil from the saw before shipping as this is a safety hazard if not done.

        Thanks, CRV is working properly.

      Richard,

I would check that the start/run switch is working properly, Remove the top cover, as If your going to check your air filter, and you will see the start/run (red) switch. Operate the switch and observe the metal leaf type spring and electrical contact, there should be a blue wire connected to it. When you move the switch to the start or choke position you should see this metal leaf spring break contact or open up. The contact is where the black wire is connected, so make sure that the blue and black wire are separating from each other when going to start.

Also make sure you are moving the switch in the correct position to start, If you are familiar with a different brand of chainsaw like a "Stihl", it is just opposite. (Note: I believe the Stihl, you move the switch down to start the chainsaw but on the Husqvarna you move the switch up to start). Verify the starting directions in the OM manual.

I hope this helps, there have been individuals that stated they were having troubles with this switch, and If the switch is staying closed, (Note: Blue and black wires connected together is closed switch), then that will explain why you have no ignition.

Thanks, the start/stop switch moves the choke level correctly. The blue and black wires are connected to the switch with crimp connectors. I do not see any external metal leaf type spring contact on this 450 model saw.

      Richard,

Oops' and Yes your correct, it is more difficult to see the actual switch contacts, since they are located under the Red plastic switch lever, so It may not be visible without doing some  switch dissassembly, Which I would not recommend since its a New Chainsaw.

Here is a picture of the IPL drawing of the switch: (see attachment)

I would suggest contacting the original seller, they may want you to simply return it, and they will send you another one. However, as Eugene suggested you will need to clean  out the oil and gas before return shipping, which is a little bit of a hassle.

Thanks for the follow-up email. I just spoke with CPO Outlets, the vendor that I purchased the saw from, and they are sending me another saw. Happily surprised with their customer service! Delivery promised in 2 to 3 business days and a prepaid return shipping label for the defective saw.

Great News, and Yes a lot of the Big Business Internet Dealers work that way (Just send you another one, and return shipping). Yes CPO Outlets is a good one, and I hope your replacement works out OK, I am sure it will, and a Model 450 is a nice chainsaw.

If your not familiar with how the Husqvarna start/run switch works or have Not had a Husqvarna before, I highly recommend reading thru the directions a few times pertaining to that control switch in the Operating Manual. The start/run switch is a little different than the traditional chainsaw type switches of other chainsaws, and I know alot of individuals who have either flooded their chainsaws, or Not been able to start them. Anyhow, Its a great chainsaw and should start very easily, and If you are familiar with Husqvarna's then Please disregard all my wordiness in this paragraph.

Also would Luv to hear how your New model 450 works, when you get the replacement,

      Karla
