    Question:
I have a husqvarna (LGT2554) with the dreaded (JUNK) Tuff Torq K46 transaxle, I've had this machine for approximately four years, the transaxle can handle approximately 20-30 minutes of use before there is absolutely no drive force to it, since my lawn takes roughly two hours to mow this is obviously not acceptable, is there anyone out there that can tell me if husqvarna or tuff torq is doing anything about this failure on their part to provide a useable product? Also the options that I have for making my "mower" functional again are very costly and not proven to even be effective or lasting does anyone have any answers for how to fix this issue without the same old "call this number for parts", cop out answer that I keep getting from the "service" people or the "you can send a fax to this number to register a complaint"?
I was assured by Lowes, Husqvarna, and Tuff Torq that they care about their customers but they've shown absolutely No concern at all! When I purchased this machine I spoke with the sales person for almost two hours and made abundantly clear what my needs were and that I was planning to purchase additional attachments for this machine and that I needed it to last for a very long time, he assured me that this machine should last me for the rest of my life and that it would be many years down the road before I would even need to be concerned with any kind of repairs. Obviously that was the furthest from the truth! I owned a twelve year old MTD mower that I inherited from my dad and I abused it horribly on a piece of ground that I turned into a lawn and it took all I could give it and yet this machine I have babied and made my "trophy mower" and it is already ready for the junk yard rendering all of my attachments wasted investments as well. If this is the kind of quality that the three above mentioned companies sell all can rest assured that my business and advertising will never be beneficial to them again.

Did this problem just developed recently? If so you have changed out the drive belt? It is a 1/2 x 92-1/2 type 1 v-belt.

There are several versions of the K46 so repair costs are depend which version you have.

This problem has been going on for approx nine months (gradually slowing down) until on a grade it will not move forward, I've replaced the belt after each time that the front bolts fell out and tore the rear frame mounts, I've now rebuilt the rear frame mounts (I'm a fabricator by trade) and when this problem began I replaced the belt just to be sure after that I took it to a husqvarna dealer and he tried another new belt and checked to make sure the tension was correct. He told me that this was the sixth transaxle of the season like mine with the same condition.

My transaxle is a K46AW in the numerical range of 12k, I don't have the number on hand but I remember from the tuff torq web site it is the fourth out of five from the list of selections.

It was suggested to me on another site to replace the pump and motor in the transaxle and replace the oil with 5W-50 synthetic, I have since then done that, and it is still no better, since then tuff torq recommended that the "center body" should have been replaced also for an additional $169.00, is that additional expense even worth it, this set of parts only lasted four years, I don't want to replace them now and have to do this again every couple of years.....

Sorry for taking a while to reply but I wanted to look over the IPL to see what you had done. Tuff Torq actually has an overhaul kit that replaces the complete hydraulic pump motor section along with seals which what should have been done in the first place. If you now replace the section that they recommend you should have a fairly new pump motor section leaving only mechanical axle drive section as original. It does sound your on the right track on getting the transmission back into working order.

It is really up to you if your willing to spend that extra amount and complete that portion of the overhaul.
