It is not abnormal for chains to stretch after use to some extent, however for them to stretch to this extent is uncommon. Of course, and as you have mentioned be sure that your chain is sharp and is cutting pieces of wood roughly the size of you little finger's nail. Given a dull chain would be the leading cause for the chain to stretch excessively.
