Question:
I have a 9 yr old 345 chainsaw, just recently after adjusting the chain after a few seconds of cutting the chain will seize up, if I than manually engage the chain brake and than manually disengage it the chain will move again but locks up again right away when I give it throttle. Logic tells me it is a problem with the chain brake rather than the sprocket but I don't understand why it is doing that. All is clean with no debris or grease build-up.
Answer
I would still check the clutch on this older saw for excessive wear and also make chain isn't binding in the bar from damage drive links.
Also make sure when it is locked up that chain brake isn't tripping too easily from wear.
