    Question:
I own a model 435 Husqvarna chainsaw. It does not have a decompression button, When I try to start the saw the cord does not extend the correct length. Does this have to do with compression buildup? If so how do I relieve the compression so the cord will work and I can start the saw?

     Hi Jan

Thanks for contacting the Answer Army to post your questions.

The compression in the combustion chamber of a 435 at minimum is 120 pounds per square inch. If the piston is on the upward travel when the saw is first being started, that compression has to be overcome just to get the rope to pull out and start another cycle. Since the saw doesn't have a decompression valve, you can pull the starter rope handle slowly until you feel the resistance of the compression stroke release. At that point you can use the starting procedures in the owners manual to start the unit with a little more ease since you have passed the compression stroke, and pull the starter, you will then have momentum in the engine to overcome the next compression stroke and start the saw.

I hope this helps and thanks again for using the Answer Army.
