    Question:
My husband bought me a new rancher 455 chainsaw last October and it sat in the garage until a few weeks ago when I filled it up and got ready to cut some wood. Had a big puddle of oil and never used the saw, took it too the dealer and haven't heard from them. I see this is a problem. Is it fixable or am I out my husband's hard earned cash for this product? I can't use a chainsaw that leaks oil, I'll put up with my 20 year old Stihl first. Does the maker have a solution for this problem?

Oh they have a fix, it will sit at your dealer for at least a month while husquvarna takes there sweet time to send the parts. If you are lucky it might fix it, I figure a 50/50 shot. If it is like mine there "fix" did nothing and now I am going to have to wait for god knows how long for them to make a decision on what is now wrong. I have used mine 4 times, and it has been in the shop 4 months, and this includes the winter where it sat for three of the months that it was not in the shop. If I were you I would take it back and get a refund from where you bought it or you will be sitting around with a worthless chainsaw in the shop.

        James,

Thank you for your help. I couldn't get a refund because of store "policy" after 30 days the saw is 'mine'.  My saw sat in the garage from last October until May before the snow was finally gone and I could get outside.  It was in the shop 2 1/2 weeks and the excessive leak problem is not a problem now (at least I think so maybe I should go check?)  I used it last weekend and had to adjust the carburator for altitude.  I still like my Stihl 026 but it is old and cranky.  Good luck getting your's fixed.  Ingrid

      Ingrid,

I wouldn't give up on the Husqvarna 455 just yet, I have two of them. One I purchased in November 2010 from a retail store, and a second one that I purchased in June 2012, neither one of them leak oil. I have read of some individuals stating that they leak oil, I also know that Husqvarna has changed some of the oil pump parts, which was an effort to fix the problem. The Husqvarna 455 is a great saw, I have a 20" bar on one and a  24" bar on then other, I cut about 8 chords of wood per year most of it is large Hardwood black oak, and it cuts like crazy, just keep them sharpened.

I hope you get yours fixed and it corrects the problem, I know you will enjoy this chainsaw!

PS. I am almost thinking from the previous Oil Leakers that I have read about, that it may be some kind of an assembly problem with the oil pumps, they are easy to work on, and I have been half tempted to take mine apart so I could find where the problem is and Post it for everyone to fix, the oil pump is easy to change out, once you get the clutch off of the saw. Just a thought!

        Karla,

Got the saw back, no leaks, took 2 1/2 weeks.  Fired it up last weekend and cut a lot of wood.  I am praying that "other" issues won't surface.  I live at almost 8000' above sea level and had to have a neighbor help readjust the carburator.  So, on I go.  Thank you for your encouragement. Ingrid
