one also must be especially careful when scraping the casing halves to remove old gasket. you should always have a scraper wide enough to rest on two points of contact as you remove gasket. this practice will not allow you to round over edges of casing halves.
after gasket removal, then use a straight edge to prove the mating surface is true. any high spots should be lightly filed to improve a perfected joinery. the vaccum will hold at a constant value if and only if, strict attention to detail has been paid during the preparation of mating surfaces. this is one of the common issues I resolve with a crank replacement.

We use a sealant part number 503267201. This is used for crankcase sealing. You should check the bores and flatness incase heat wrapped the cylinder.
The cover plates should be changed also. These sit in the half moons of the cylinder.
