      Ron,

I just rebuilt a Stihl 029 which has a cylinder displacement of 56 cc's and had a compression of 145 psi after replacing the cylinder, piston and rings. The Husqvarna 545 is very similar specifications with 50.5 cc's, so I would expect the Model 545 to be about the same. Of course how you do the compression test could vary a little so its possible to get a little more or a little less, probably in the range of 140 - 150 Psi.

Also I have a Model 545 and could do a compression test on my chainsaw, if that would help you, However my Model 545 is Not exactly brand new but fairly close, I have used it about 6 times. Lol.

      I hope this helps,

      Karla

PS. I am Not a Husqvarna Representative or Repair Service, Just an experimental chainsaw person.

Thanks Karla for the info if you could run a compression check on the 545 it would be a big help. thanks ron

      Ron,

I just did a compression test on my 545, Infact I did it twice and it was alot less than I typically would expect.

I use an "Actron Compression kit", on my first try with WOT, and after 6-7 pulls, I got a reading of 105 PSI and on my second attempt it was 110 PSI, so alot less than I would typically expect, also that was with the engine totally cold.

I hope this helps, just curious but are you having trouble with your Model 545 ? Or did you do a test already and find it lower than you expected also ?

that is a super low number.  between 145 & 154+ is a new or like new upper.  once a saw drops into the 120's I re-do the top.  if it is at or below 110 it should not even be capable of balling up the atomization of mixture enough to even light the candle.

I cycle through the reps 8 or 10 pulls to truly evaluate the real compression value in that upper. it is possible to leave compression on the table by only going halfway.  rip thru it until the top offers no more advance on your gauge.  then you will no for certain if you have suffered premature compression loss...
