    Question:
I have a Husqvarna 223L. It has not been starting reliably for the past month or so. Today I tried to crank it up but noticed the flywheel is not spinning when I pull the string. I have taken the trimmer apart and was able to remove the nut holding the flywheel on with my finger. I figure that would be the problem. I noticed that there is a groove in the crank shaft but do not see any sort of locking pin that would hold the fly wheel in at a certain slot. The center on the flywheel where the shaft comes through is smooth. I'm not sure if there should be a notch in it to line up with the groove in the shaft or not. Can you please let me know if there is supposed to be a pin or a notch in the flywheel to line it up, or if not, how to set the flywheel so that the timing will be correct.

    Thank you

Same thing happened to my flywheel.. Yes there is supposed to be a grove where the flywheel will line up one the crank shaft Slot/ groove.  The whole flywheel is cast aluminum with a key/ slot cast into it. with no replacement "Key" Pretty Junk Huh??? Mine is just a smooth as can be.I hads a similar problem when trying to fire off/crank  it would back fire. After cleaning carb checking for fire, ETC. I took it apart with a buddy that used to work on these for a living.  I just priced one for mine and it was 37$ is the cheapest I have found thus far.

Echo's Have a key you can Replace. It is funny how cheap made it is

Let me know if you found it somewhere cheaper

Thanks for the response.  Agreed, JUNK.  I replaced the flywheel with one I ordered off PartsTree.  I can't remember how much it cost, but I think $37 is a good deal.  After replacing it, I still had problems starting it up.  It would start right up if there trimmer had been sitting for a while, but would stall out after a few seconds.  After that I couldn't ever get it to start.  I got fed up and bought an Echo.
