    Question:
    I bought a push mower from Lowes and the model # is-961450010 00 HU775H AND THE SERIAL # IS 071513M 057042.
The mower is hard to start and gas is getting in the cylinder and comes out the muffler. I don't think I've had the lawn mower but 2 1/2 yrs and think that it should be a better product than this.
I only mow a small spot next to my house each season so it doesn't get a lot of use and I use 100% gas all the time. Also I make sure to run the mower out of gas at the end of the season. I would like a free replacement as it is useless to me.

    Thanks David Self

Let first say I don't work for Husqvarna but do service their equipment lines. Just a small independent shop owner and chief mechanic.

That would be great if all of us could our out of warranty equipment when it fails for free but that doesn't happen. The Briggs engine had a two year consumer / 90 day commercial warranty. It did not cover fuel related issues anyway.

Now as for the fuel problem most likely the float needle seat is not sealing. Even what you call 100% gasoline is not 100% as it contains additives mandated by the EPA. It is these additives that can damage fuel system components. Additives like fuel system cleaners can damage rubber components which the needle seat is.

The main problem with ethanol fuel is it moisture attraction which causes water buildup it the fuel which why it must be store in tightly sealed containers. Personally I use 10% Ethanol fuels in all my customers and personal gasoline power equipment for years. Now I do see a lot related problems but most of it is from the fuel itself being mishandled or one additive is damaging things.

Replacement of the needle seat and changing the oil as it most likely fouled by the excess gasoline leaking into the cylinder should solve the fuel leakage problem. A second thing that need to be done and this only in case you add fuel with trash in it is to a fuel strainer between the carburetor and fuel tank as most of these engine were sold without one. This can happen even being careful about storage. You can even water in the fuel when purchased. I personally was several years ago when I purchase 5 gallons and ended up with about a quart of water in it. I found it as soon as I filled my TB Horse and went 5 feet with it dying on me. I spent the next dragging it out of the garden to service the fuel system.

Running the engine with gas foul oil will cause engine damage especially the rod to crankshaft journal. Once aluminum transfer starts from the rod to crank it only get worse over time until the engine breaks the rod and probably putting it through the side of the engine.
