Okay, will the chain move on the bar with the chain brake released. If not then you may drive link(s) damage. I just repaired one where the about half of the drive links were damaged from running with the chain too loose.
If the chain moves freely then I would say that you probably have a bad clutch spur drive or if the saw is using a rim drive system a bad rim. The clutch seldom fails in a way that don't drive, Most times it will not disengage.
