I cannot get the nut holding the impeller on to come loose. Any tips? Is it a regular thread or maybe revered? I've tried both ways. There's just no good way to hold the shaft in place while trying to loosen the nut.
The impeller has gotten really chewed up when vacuuming and getting some wood mulch sucked up.

Due the direction the impeller turns it might be very well be left handed threaded. To remove the nut the easiest way would the use a piston stop but you don't have access to one good length of starter rope inserted into the cylinder via the spark plug hole to stop the piston so the nut can be removed and re-tighten later will work in most cases. When doing either way pull the starter's rope out a little to prevent damage to the starter assembly.

I read this THREE times and I'm still not sure what you mean. Read it back to yourself and then tell me what I need to do with the starter rope and/or the spark plug hole. Can't I just get someone to hold the impeller while I remove the nut??? And by left hand threaded I assume you mean REVERSE threaded. Thank you for any help.

The for pulling out the starter rope on the starter is they to over tighten on some as they catch as the engine rotates backwards to normal operation direction. (Depends on starter design).
If using starter rope to stop the piston instead of a piston stop you insert it into the cylinder via the spark plug hole as to partially fill the cylinder.
The reason that someone just can't hold the impeller is that many times the nut is partially seized to the shaft and once loosen slightly just spins the crankshaft in the impeller and you no longer able to loosen the nut farther.
And yes left hand is what some call reverse thread. And the reason for LH nuts and screws is they self tighten under load instead loosening which also is why it harder to loosen at first as they have self torqued beyond the initial torque amount.
