    Question:
got a problem with my husky 350, that's been working like a dream til just now. changed the chain, tightened it up to short of where i wanted, finger tightened the nuts on the cover, adjusted chain tension, lifted the nose of the bar, tightened the nuts firm. all good, right? chain tension right what i wanted. chain will not move. check that brake is off. chain won't move. loosen nuts, chain will move but i am not about to operate a chain saw with loose nuts (ahem). take the bar and chain off. sprocket seems tight, but i can turn it and it loosens up to what it should be. reassemble. chain doesn't move.

    any ideas?

Double check you chain pitch and gauge as these saws can be setup as either .325 or .375 (3/8) pitch. The bar, chain and sprocket all must be the same pitch.

my gauges are ok - if the chain were too fat, it wouldn't turn on the bar at all.  turns fine til the nuts are fastened down.

Then either bar is damaged or the chain brake assembly is pinching the bar.  I used Machinist Blue to find area of contact.

good idea, eugene, and thanks.  i don't know if we have machinist blue out here in the wilds of the middle east, but maybe i could use chalk or something to locate the area of contact.  simple idea, like most best ideas are.  thanks.  i'll get back to you when i have it nailed down where the contact is, if i can't solve it  myself.
