Built 1998 or 2008 week 38 but I thinking it is more likely 1998 as Husqvarna was transiting through two digit year code in the 2000's then went to a 4 digit year as we entered 2010 decade.
But just as a rule of thumb for Husqvarna Serial numbers:
1. Prior to 2000, they used the first digit to represent the year, so in your case "8" would typically mean 1998, Much older saws they went by colors of the saw, you can check this out by search FAQ's, I know there is a description posted previously.
2. After 2000, the first two digits would by the year, so if you had a "08" then it would be a 2008 model.
3 Finally around 2010 and therafter, the first four digits was the year, so a "2008...." would be a 2008 model year.
So my assumption is that your model is a 1998, You may also be able to download the "IPL" for your Model number, and the IPL's are dated and see which one matches up with yours.
Also, I just looked up Model 281, which I believe your chainsaw is that model, and they were Manufactured from 1986 - 2001, So a 1998 model would be right in line with those dates.
Again, I hope this helps
