Question:
Following up on a previous question regarding my 5521P auto choke walk behind lawnmower that will not start... Someone recommended I remove the spark plug and squirt some fuel in. After doing this the machine did start up and ran for a few seconds before shutting off again. Makes sense to me that there is a blockage in the carburetor restricting the flow of fuel. I've removed the carburetor assembly and disassembled it as far as I feel comfortable. I've attached a photo of where I'm at. Looks to be only three openings... One small hole right after where the fuel line connects to the assembly, a small pin on the side of the oval shaped white plastic piece near the center of the assembly and a metal ball on the very bottom of the white plastic piece. Do I need to do any further disassembly? Should I blast any openings with compressed air. Soak the assembly in some sort of cleaning solution? I'm sure this is a basic question to mechanics used to working on small engines but this is my first time so any comments/suggestions would be helpful!

Just an update since I didn't get any replies... I put some Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle and squirted it in all the locations on the carb that I had mentioned in my previous post. I then blew everything out with a blower attachment on my air compressor. Reassembled everything, put in fresh fuel and the mower started up on the first pull! Must have been a piece of dirt or something else lodged restricting the flow of fuel, that the air blasted out. Man am I pretty happy to get this thing up and running again and am glad I've learned a little bit about how these mowers are put together. Next up is to tune up my weed eater!
