    Question:
I own a Husky 55 (not Rancher) chainsaw.

In the manual, it recommends greasing the clutch drum bearing via a drilled hole in the end of the crankshaft.

That drilled hole goes nowhere. It will not accept grease because there is no cross-drilled hole going to the clutch drum bearing. It shows a picture of using the same needle-point grease gun used to lube the chain sprocket on the end of the bar.

To lube this bearing, I have to take the clutch off the crankshaft, which is a PITA.

Should my saw have the cross-drilled hole in the crankshaft or not?

I have worked on three 55's and none has this. Personally having cross holes would not good for needle bearing anyway.

Saying it a Pita you ought try working some the ATVs that I work on. You got remove half the body parts and fuel tank just to get to the carburetor. Or try removing and installed the front gear when it on goes one way with only a few thousandths of inch play to get through.

The removing clutch is simple compared to this and with the right tools is easily done. Takes me less 5 minutes to this. It takes longer get and put away the tools.
