I have a Husqvarna 50 chainsaw I am having problems starting the saw. I haven't used the saw in years. Do I need to empty the old gas and add new gas. Also does this unit use regular gas or mixed gas.

It is a 50:1 fuel mix.
Yes trying new fuel mix might work especially if the unit has been sitting as some fuel go bad in as little as 30 days. I get equipment where the fuel will not even burn when an open flame is applied.
You're probably in for a carburetor cleaning and rebuild too. Usually the metering diaphragm at least is probably stiffen (hardern) from time.
