    Question:
I purchased a Z246 about 2 months ago. It has a B&S 20 hp. One part of the manual says change oil after 10 hours. Im thinking of doing that but again, the manuals are off. Do I go by the B&S manualfor part numbers? I am trying to replace the orange colored oil filter and oil. One part says 30 weight oil, another part says 10W30, cany anyone tell me whee to get actual OEM replacement part numbers for filter etc.?

    Thanx

Basically there is two different oil filters used on the Briggs a short compact filter and a large filter. The filtering spec are generally 25 micron with pressure relief (bypass) at 7-11 psi. Here I just replace the Orange with the standard Briggs filter that is short or long depending what is on the engine when it comes in.

These are the 2-1/4 height (Short) filters.

      798576 Filter, Oil - (Orange)
      795890 Filter, Oil - (Yellow)
      492932S Filter, Oil - (Black)

As for engine oil this the operating (air) temperature.

Year around SAE10w30 or preferably SAE5w30 synthetic. Synthetics has much broader operating temperature range and provide a much higher level of protection.

Hot summer months then SAE30 can be used.

It just a detergent oil is preferred with an oil filter is used as it suspends the particles that needs filtering out as compared to non detergent oil allows particles to settle to the down of the crankcase,
