    Question:
Husky 2042LS lawn tractor. Have changed slipping drive belt three times. This last time also replaced both idler pulleys. New belt started slipping on uphills AGAIN today. (Our yard has some steep grades to deal with) Can't see any way to tighten belt. Is there a slightly shorter version available?

Actually there are three idler pulleys in the drive belt system. 2 v-idlers and 1 flat idler. Double check your v-idlers the belt should not be bottoming out in the v-groove.

the next size down is a 1/2 x 92 but i believe that will be too short.

The 2 "V" pulleys  are what I replaced, even though I couldn't see exceptional wear I could feel a slight ridge near the top of the "V" that wasn't there on the new ones. Wife has been mulching leaves in dry conditions, lots of  dust. Acting as a lubricant?

So, w/out a shorter belt available my only option is to look closely at the idler pulley set up & come up w/a way to increase the tension. Anyone else had this issue?

There is one other possibility and that the OEM belt is poly belt and stretching under load. Trying 1/2 x 92-1/2 Kevlar belt may solve the problem as they have considerable less stretch factor.

I'd like to fix this for the long term, getting my 71 year old bones up & down & sliding under the mower is no fun. Where do I buy the kevlar version of the belt? Part number?

            Thanks

Just Google B1130969 which is Sunbelt Outdoors Product belt part number and you also it list under A&I A-B1130969. Same belt just from two different divisions of the parent corporation.

You may also be able get it through your local John Deere.
