    Question:
Husq 450 Chainsaw Stalls Every 5minutes (Lack of Oil)
    Details:

Bought a brand new Husqvarna 450 Chainsaw (X-TORQ) and I simply can not use it for more than 5minutes without it stalling. There is simply no lubrication on the bar. This leads to the front sprocket ceasing and overheating. I will never buy a Husqvarna Chainsaw again, not only due to this new design, but due to their lack of customer support, and false advertising (2yr/4yr warranty only covers manufacturer defects excluding engine and transmission... which means they cover nothing).

I tried adjusting the amount of oil coming out onto the bar however Husqvarna made that unadjustable. Also Husqvarna designed the oil outlet in such way that it now easily gets clogged up. A chainsaw has the right to get dirty and it should still function fine. I do not understand what made them think that less oil is better.

My old Husqvarna 350 Chainsaw ran and ran and ran. You could adjust the oil output and the oil outlet never got clogged. I used that chainsaw so much that I burnt a hole through the muffler several times.

I bought the 4 year extended warranty and after reading the rules and regulations that the warranty covers I noticed it doesn't cover anything. It literally excludes everything. Now I am stuck with this brand new 450 chainsaw and I have to clean it every *** 5 minutes. It makes me wonder whether Husqvarna ever tests their chainsaws after they come up with these horrible designs!

I am now currently trying to get my money back from the dealership where I bought the 450 chainsaw. I have already explained this to them and simply just stand there because they know what I am saying is true.

You need to check that oil pump piston has its retainer pin in place. Without it the pump will not work except at a very minimum output. This requires the removal of the clutch and spur drive drum along the the pump cover.

There is a second option of upgrading to an adjustable pump but will at least $60 in parts. If you wish to go this way let me know as I have just done my 445 which has the same setup and I can give a list of the parts needed.

Thank you very much for the information. I would have no problem checking whether the retainer pin is in place within the oil pump piston however this a brand new Chainsaw. If something is wrong, it should be fixed by the dealership and not me. I will take this information to the dealership and hopefully they can check this without charge.

      Kacper,

I just rebuilt a a Model 450 for a friend yesterday, and I really like the Model 450. I cleaned the control linkage which was sticking a little when changing from choke to idle, anyhow it works great now.

Also because of your post and Eugene's response, I removed the drive sprocket and cluch, and cleaned the Oil pump. The oil pump was working but I thought it should be putting out a little more oil, Oh I also lubricated the sprocket bearing while it was apart, It now runs great and I returned it to the owner, and he was thrilled.

The Model 450 really has some power, I was really impressed.

Oh, he did have a 3/8 chain installed on a .325 pitch sprocket, and a .325 bar with nose sprocket, I noticed the excess chain sticking out around the nose. Anyhow I bought him a new .325 pitch chain which fixed that problem too. He is not sure how the 3/8 pitch chain got on his saw, So maybe the big box store put the wrong chain on it,

I would definitely recommend checking your drive sprocket and chain, and make sure they are ,325 and not a mismatch as in my friends case.

      I hope this helps,

      Karla

PS. I am Not a Husqvarna Representative or Repair Sevice, just an experimental chainsaw person.

Just to update anyone who wrote or is reading this thread. I sent the chainsaw to Husqvarna and they completely refunded me. It was not easy. It all took about two months of back and forth communicating. The store from which I bought the chainsaw from was completely incompetent. The problem with the saw, as I probably mentioned before, was a lack of oil on the bar which lead to stalls every 5 minutes. The oiler was not adjustable. The design was not good and Husqvarna is to blame for the design.

Thank  you for the update, and glad you persevered and got resolution. Bummer that it took a while, but I am always curious how the story ends, after providing some recommendations for a fix or repair.

This fixed oiler can be upgraded to the adjustable version but it around $75 in parts to do so. This I done here as I am using a 20" bar instead of the 18" bar the came with the saw. Being an repair shop I was able to sell the fixed oiler and pinion to a customer so I recovered some my expense as the parts were never used.
