    Question:
I recently attended a class to learn how to safely use a chainsaw. The instructor had his own copy of a book published by Husqvarna showing proper technique, maintenance, and so on. Info in the book seemed to follow techniques shown in Husqvarna YouTube videos. We could find no ISBN. I don't remember the exact title, but it was along the lines of "How to Use a Chainsaw." The instructor recalls having gotten the book from a Husqvarna dealer. I've searched what I can on the Internet but cannot find the book. Can anyone identify the book and tell me where I might purchase my own copy?

      Richie,

I have not seen a Husqvarna book either, there are Husqvarna Workshop manuals for specific models, Maybe the Instructor had one of those. I know If you go to Husqvarna site, you can download their  Instructional videos.

However here is a book that I recently Ordered on-line, and does a nice job of covering a lot of topics for Homeowner Chainsaws.

Homeowner's Complete Guide to the Chainsaw: A Chainsaw Pro Shows You How to Safely and Confidently Handle Everything from Trimming Branches and Felling Trees to Splitting and Stacking Wood Paperback – October 1, 2009

Thanks, but I've already seen the book by Brian and Jen Ruth at a couple libraries.  Amazon references a few other books, none of which is what I'm looking for.

You're right about the manuals on the Husqvarna website -- they're concerned with using and maintaining specific models.  I think the Husqvarna book was privately published and in limited quantity.  sad

Chainsaw standards and techniques seem to be evolving.  The book by the Ruth's (2009) and USDA online videos (2006) show a 3-cut technique.  What I was taught from the Husqvarna book and what I've seen from the Husqvarna video (2013) shows a 4-cut technique, at least for medium diameter trees.  A Stihl video shows both.

Thanks for the Information, and I am always interrested in finding a better book. So If you do find one, Please Post it here so we can all Share, Tree trimming, and falling, and pruning, and logging, and making firewood are a lot of topics, and obviously trees are a very tricky thing. I have had personal experiences where trees actually Jump, or turn  themselves on a stump and fall the wrong way, even with a lot of planning, and then there is cutting half dead or rotten trees another very serious danger. Anyhow there are alot of things to consider, Too funny, But Many individuals including experts with alot of experience who have gotten seriously hurt or even killed, so It is not a hobby, or skill for the faint hearted. Please let me Know what you discover,

      Thanks.
