    Question:
I have a new 455 Rancher (20"). It is late December and I'm in the Northeast. The daytime high today was 15F. I want to know what type of chain oil to use. 10W30 would likely be too thick, but I assume okay if the temperature was above ~50.

What type of chain oil do you recommend at different temperatures?

      Tom,

I use Husqvarna "Low Temperature " bar and chain oil, It works great in cold temperatures, I purchase it by the gallon, and a gallon will last for a while. Just remember to dump the "Low Temperature" oil back into a container once the temperature warms up, like to 40 - 50 degrees F or above,  and switch back to the standard Husqvarna bar oil, otherwise you will find the bar oil just running out of the saw.

      I hope this helps,

      Karla

PS. I am not a Husqvarna Representative or Repair Service, Just an experimental chainsaw person.
