I have a Craftsman T3000 917.203901 NOT a 20390. What is the difference ?? serial #010516A009080. I bought mower used, all seems to work good, but no manual of info. Info on the 20390 seems available easy enough, but not for the 203901.
Per Sears Parts Direct the 917.20390 is the correct manual but parts ipl use the 203901. Mower is not too old as it was manufactured on January 05, 2016.
Some places I find this machine has a hydrostatic transaxle, some places say a GT Transmission.... Some places say 6 cutting heights, some say 10 cutting heights. Can you tell me what differences are supposed to be between a 203901 and a 20390...... mine is 203901.
I can only go by what I find in the IPLs and currectly Sears direct is down here for me.
Both the 917203900and 917203901 are basically the same mower with the 3901 being a version level 01 of the 3900 original. The engine Sears is showing is the same Briggs and Stratton and both have the General Transmissions RS800P CVT transmission.
Some places claim the RS800P is automatic transmission; others claims it is a hydrostatic. The automatic is closest with it being a single speed manual using sliding sleeve pulleys and belt to change the speed. It is definitely not a hydrostatic. A system vary similar to this is used on ATVs that are belt driven expect they use better manual transmissions on the ATVs. The transmission other its external parts it is non repairable as internal parts are not available.
As for the deck height adjustment Sears has subbed the lift position plate on the fender with a new 10 position part. As for how positions was on the older parts I can't tell as I found no images.
