    Question:
I have a Husqvarna 440e chainsaw that I had to pry the cover off in order to change the chain. It usually lifts right off but this time it would not. When I did pry it off I heard a metal pinging sound when it came loose. It now will not go back on the chain break side of the cover. It seems the brake band assembly is preventing closure. Is that what could it be?
    Thanks

Chain Brake tripped. Should have reset before removing. But that didn't happen now it is going be a lot harder to reset it without the reset tool. I made one of my own design for doing this as I see several times a year from operators.

You can try putting the cover back loosely hold it with bar nuts. Now while pressing hard at the chain area pull the chain brake reset arm and you should be able to reset if the the arm engagement dogs aren't worn too much; otherwise, you may need a shop to reset it.

Don't attempt to open up the grey panel as the spring can out flying with great force and can cause serious injury. Plus it can be  bear to get that spring back in place.

      Thanks Eugene for the info.

I tried for an hour or more, no good.

Could I also do this if I remove the bar and chain, press hard on the chain area of the cover, reset the brake and then easly remove the cover ? Maybe shop time ?

Yes, you could try that too. Once the chain brake gets reset it will be like before and easy to remove.

You now see why I designed and had my machinist neighbor to do mods I wanted to the donor tool from my drawings just make easier for me to do as I do the repairs on these chain brakes. He has access to lathe and carbide cutters. I could have done it here just not as neat.

I just love giving him a change of pace projects instead him having to do constantly work on things for SpaceX.
