    Question:
There is no model number on my Rancher 455 chainsaw--purchased in April 2018. There is a s/n 2018 1400011, and another number (965 03 02-96). Can you provide it since I don't know which parts manual to refer to.

455 Rancher is the model number. The 965 03 02-96 is the product number.

      Thanks Eugene.

However, the Husqvarna website rejects "Rancher 455" when I type it in as a model number. The only spare parts list I have been able to find was last updated  on 8/17/2011. The version you attached has a reference to March 23, 2017. So, does that mean there has not been any product changes since 2017?

Not neccessarily, the product numbers are typically the same a specific Husqvarna model chainsaw. However, I have seen change where the last two digits of the product number are "00" or ie. 965 03 02-00, this typically means the engine was sold by Husqvarna to a distributor that will put their own size bar and chain on it. So the "00" designates "Not shipped with Bar and Chain" Also on some Husqvarna Models, the Product numbers, last two digits will be the bar size, ie. -16 or -20 means a 16 inch bar or 20 inch bar, but Obviously Not in your case the ( -96), I am sure you don't have a 96 inch bar, LOL.

In answer to the other part of your question about changes to a specific Chainsaw Model are reflected in the Products IPL (Illustrated Parts List). If You download all of the "IPL's" from 2011 thru 2017, usually on the last page of the parts list, It will tell you what changes were made to this product.

      I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I can't figure it out and the website is useless. The scary part is that I called the local Husqavarna dealer and their part number for my chain was different than the one listed in the operator's manual that came with the saw. Their part number was for a 20" saw and I have an 18". When I read about people having trouble with the chains, I wonder if the problems start with them getting the wrong chain size from dealers who have incorrect information.

I tried to order a maintenance kit from the Lowe's website and was told they don't stock it, even though the item was on their website. The nice Lowe's sales rep finally told me she could order the individual parts in the kit separately (which would be slightly cheaper) from a third-party vendor.

Can't say that I'd recommend this brand to anyone. Crappy support.
